Do you like doujinshi? Do you want to support your favorite Japanese artists? Would you rather not pay convention/ebay prices on doujinshi that are marked up some 500%? Well this shit is for you
First off what is Toranoana?
Toronoana is an online Japanese retailer best known for selling doujinshi and other fan created items. I know they sell other stuff but doujinshi is what I’m here for and I assume you are too. In my opinion they tend to have the best selection and I rarely find things on other sites that I can’t get on here as well.
Alright but what’s the point of a tutorial?
Honestly, I’ve been doing this for about a year now and I’ve had a number of friends express to me that they would love to be able to place orders too but they can’t get past the Japanese barrier. Honestly I don’t speak Japanese either but I did get started with the help of friends and google translate filled in the most of the other gaps for me from there.
Is it really worth all this extra work?
Well quite frankly that’s a personal matter. Personally I got sick of paying $30+ on things that sold for between 500-1000 yen ($5-$10) in Japan. Now you still won’t be getting them for that cheap but once you factor in service fees and overseas shipping it still works out to be half of what some resellers are charging. How much will depend on the size of your order with larger orders tending be more economical. Ordering through Tora I have paid anywhere between $11-$17 per book though I never order less than three at a time.
On that note, this is probably a good place to start.
